The Scenario Exploration System (SES) is a serious game that uses engagement techniques from the entertainment world to engage participants in the full richness of the systemic collective reflection created when building scenarios.
An estimated 640,000 tonnes of fishing nets are left in the oceans around the globe every year, causing damage to the oceans' ecosystems and biodiversity. The Fishing Nets Recycling edition was used in DG REGIO's Circular Ocean project to inspire communities on the hidden economic opportunities of discarded fishing nets and ropes in the Northern Periphery and Arctic Region.
For this edition, we used an adaptation of the SES based on our2035: Paths towards a sustainable EU economy - Sustainable transitions and the potential of eco-innovation for jobs and economic development in the EU eco-industries 2035 scenarios, for which new roles were developed: an SME involved in recycling or reuse, a fisheries agency, a harbour master and a fisherman.
