The Nuclear Decommissioning and Waste Management (NDWM) Programme plays a key role in the support of EU policy on nuclear waste management and the safety of nuclear installations. We have a legal obligation and we are committed to protect people and the environment from radiological hazards.
We developed a Decommissioning & Waste Management (D&WM) Programme for all sites of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) that includes :
- Belgium (Geel),
- Germany (Karlsruhe),
- Italy (Ispra) and
- the Netherlands (Petten)
The programme manages shutting down no longer needed JRC's nuclear R&D facilities and radioactive waste management installations. To protect the environment and people the programme enables us to deactivate our nuclear facilities safely and cost efficient.
