Scenarios of reduction of nutrient emissions to water

Dashboard for visualization of the comparison of two different scenarios of Nitrogen and Phosphorus load to the sea: CURRENT is the average nutrient load to the seas for the period 2014-2018 INMAX scenario includes measures to reduce nutrient discharges from domestic wastewaters, nutrient emissions from agricultural sources, Nitrogen atmospheric deposition

Dashboard for visualization of the comparison of two different scenarios of Nitrogen and Phosphorus load to the sea:
  • CURRENT is the average nutrient load to the seas for the period 2014-2018

  • INMAX scenario includes measures to reduce: 1) nutrient discharges from domestic wastewaters (enhanced implementation of the UWWT Directive, Pistocchi et al. in preparation); 2) nutrient emissions from agricultural sources (implementation of the new CAP legislative proposal plus measures to achieve the Green Deal targets also using New Generation EU Funds, simulated by the model CAPRI); 3) N atmospheric deposition according to the EU Fit For 55 package and NEC Directive (estimated by the model EMEP)
Map data come as output of GREEN model and have been aggregated at marine region level. Marine regions are delineated by Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), data are spatially represented as the total area of the basins that drain to the marine region.
The dashboard consists of:
  • Two stacked web maps (Nitrogen and Phosphorus) showing drainage area for the specific marine area representing a choropleth map of current scenario for nutrient specific load values [t/sqkm].
  • Two column charts displaying scenarios of nutrient loads with source apportionment details:
    • N: Point sources, Scattered dwellings, Atmospheric N, N from agriculture
    • P: Point sources, Scattered dwellings, Background P, P from agriculture
The charts work dynamically with the maps as follows:
  • No active feature selection: charts show totals for the entire datasets
  • Active feature selection: charts show aggregated totals for selected polygons
Reference year: 2014-2018
Type of aggregation: total value over area (values averaged over sample period).
Unit of measures: [t] for load, [t/sqkm] for specific load
Spatial coverage of aggregated data: all Europe and outside Europe where GREEN data are available.
