Reducing Nutrient Pollution in the European Union
- European Union's 2030 Goal: reduce nutrient losses to the environment by 50% while preserving soil fertility, as outlined in the Biodiversity Strategy, Farm to Fork Strategy, and Zero Pollution Action Plan
- Knowledge for INMAP Study: gather scientific knowledge and data to support the creation of an Integrated Nutrient Management Action Plan (INMAP), covering all sectors and environmental compartments involved in nitrogen and phosphorus cycles
- Key Focus Areas: describe current nutrient flows in the EU, evaluate the distance to environmental targets, and analyze possible measures to reduce nutrient pollution at different intervention points in the nutrient cycle
- Data Analysis and Visualization: we use various data sources and modeling tools to analyze nitrogen and phosphorus stocks and flows, and develop online map viewers and dashboards to visualize the data and identify regional pollution hotspots.
By working together to reduce nutrient pollution, we can help achieve the European Union's environmental goals and create a more sustainable future
