As the European Union continues to deal with the increasing quantities of packaging waste causing environmental problems, one area of focus is the harmonisation of waste sorting labels across EU Member States. This effort aims to make it easier for people in the EU to correctly sort their waste. The European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) is inviting stakeholders to a targeted consultation to gather insights on key aspects of this important issue.
The consultation informs the design and implementation of material-based waste sorting labels as part of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. These labels will be applied to packaging and waste receptacles, providing clear guidance on proper disposal to people in the EU. The JRC aims to develop a technical proposal for a consistent labelling system that is clear for everyone, enhances recycling efficiency and thus contributes to the EU's recycling goals.
The JRC welcomes feedback on various aspects of label design and labelling rules until Monday 16/06/2025 23:59 UTC+1.
