Future of Customs in the EU 2040 SES edition

Scenario Exploration System that allows the exploration and interactions around four future scenarios on the future of customs in the EU 2040.

Foresight

The Scenario Exploration System (SES) is a serious game that uses engagement techniques from the entertainment world to engage participants in the full richness of the systemic collective reflection created when building scenarios.

The EU Customs edition was developed to engage with the Customs Union stakeholders as part of the foresight project on the The future of customs in the EU 2040. This edition was first used with a group of high-level participants from customs administrations from all over Europe during the Helsinki High Level Seminar on Strategic Foresight and the Future of the Customs Union organised by the Finnish Presidency of the EU in October 2019. 

In this case, the SES helped the participants to experience possible futures before engaging in a strategic reflection on the preferred future of customs in the EU. This served the visioning part of the foresight project.
