Descriptions:
The strategies are classified as follows:
- Fully dedicated to the bioeconomy: Strategies that exclusively focus on bioeconomy deployment, covering one or multiple areas and parts of or whole value chain.
- Bioeconomy is one of the key elements: Strategies focused on the bioeconomy, alongside other topics, themes or sectors.
- Minimum bioeconomy content: Strategies that tackle or cover the bioeconomy superficially.
The first layer of the map “All types of strategies” represents the regions in a hierarchical way, i.e. regions appear only with the strategy that is ranked highest according to the role of the bioeconomy.
Regions in this map follow the Nomenclature of territorial units for statistics (NUTS), and the geographical scale of the strategies can be NUTS 1, NUTS 2 or NUTS 3 level.
The data on initiatives includes the latest available information collected via desk research and a series of surveys with EU Member States and third countries’ experts.
The initiatives are grouped in 5 different types:
- Collaboration initiatives (e.g. Bottom-up collaboration initiatives, Initiatives promoting transfer of technology, Measures enabling multi-stakeholder involvement and dialogue)
- Initiatives on infrastructure and capacity building (e.g. Bioeconomy-specific educational programmes, Industrial cluster initiatives, Initiatives promoting pilot and demonstration facilities)
- Initiatives promoting research and innovation (e.g. Initiatives promoting the creation of specific research centres, programmes on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP))
- Measures addressing the demand for bio-based products (e.g. Measures promoting the production & commercialisation of bio-based products, Studies on public behaviour and/or consumer perception)
- Measures promoting the production & commercialisation of bio-based products (e.g. Initiatives promoting access to capital for bio-based companies, Mandates for bio-based products and/or restrictions for fossil-based products
