The Coherence Index (INDICO ) is an indicator designed to explore, analyse, and compare countries’ policy coherence with sustainable development. According to the index, policies coherent with sustainable development put the well-being of people (human development approach) and the sustainability of the planet (sustainable development approach) at the centre, consider the effects of policies within and outside the borders of the country that applies them (cosmopolitan approach), promote gender equality (feminist perspective) and uphold human rights for all people (human rights approach).
Societal impact:
The new version of lndico is led by two platforms of social organizations ( La Coordinadora y Futuro en común ) that bring together more than 600 social, environmental and feminist organizations and by a network of development studies ( REEDES ). INDICO is intended to be a tool that helps to publicize and understand the coherence approach of e-policies for development and to obtain social and political support to build public policies that respect human rights, protect the planet and promote peace.
The previous version of the tool was recognized and incorporated in the 2015 OECD report, Better policies for Development 2015 , and it has also been part of a study on pioneering and innovative methodologies regarding Policy Coherence for Development , prepared by the European network CONCORD.
