Brief me
Agriculture is one of the important sectors in transforming the European economy and society towards a long-term sustainability. While contributing to this transition, European farmers will at the same time face several future challenges for agriculture and food production and consumption, especially regarding climate change and resource scarcity, technological change, infrastructural issues and food demand/dietary habits. The study ‘Farmers of the future’ explores who will be the farmers in the medium- and long-term future who will be dealing with those challenges. This report presents the results of this exploration, describing the 2040 landscape of farmers and possible policy implications.
