World Bank - Food Security Update - 04/05/2022

  • Since the last update on April 20, 2023, the agricultural, cereal, and export price indices closed 8 percent, 9 percent, and 11 percent lower, respectively.

  • Domestic food price inflation remains high in almost all low-, middle-, and high-income countries.

  • The 2023 Global Report on Food Crises (GRFC) indicates that 258 million people in 58 countries or territories for which consensus-based evidence is available faced crisis or worse levels of acute food insecurity (Integrated Food Security Phase Classification/Cadre Harmonisé (IPC/CH) Phase 3+ or equivalent) in 2022.

  • In the April 2023 edition of the Global Commodity Market Outlook, the World Bank indicated that, overall, commodity prices are expected to be 21 percent lower in 2023 than in 2022.

  • The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) 2023 Global Food Policy Report: Rethinking Food Crisis Responses provides evidence-based policy recommendations for governments, donors, and nongovernmental organizations working to reduce short- and long-term impacts of food crises.

  • The Status of Women in Agrifood Systems, a report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), analyzes new data to provide an overview of female participation in global agrifood systems and the various challenges that these women face.
