WFP Lebanon - Beirut Explosion Response Factsheet

As an immediate response in the aftermath of the Beirut blast, WFP allocated food parcels to families and communal kitchens in the blast-stricken area and brought into Lebanon 12,500 metric tons of wheat flour to support food security after the explosion. In agreement with the Ministry of Economy and Trade, the wheat flour served to increase the weight of the standard bag of bread from 900 to 1,000 grams, meaning that all Lebanese families received two extra loaves in the staple bag of pita bread for the same price for 2 months.
Following the immediate response, WFP provided multipurpose cash assistance to 89,000 vulnerable people affected by the explosion for a period of six months to support their food and other basic needs.
