Advanced Technologies for Radiological Characterization by automatic and semi-automatic nuclear instrumentation

  • Publication | 2025

Radiological characterization of nuclear facilities is an essential step in the decommissioning process. It involves the identification, measurement, and analysis of radioactive materials present in the facility, as well as the assessment of potential radiation hazards. This information is crucial for planning and implementing the decommissioning activities, as it provides valuable data for the development of effective safety measures and the selection of appropriate decontamination and waste management strategies. In the context of NDA technologies used for radiological characterization, this KP will analysis the advantages and disadvantages to use new emerging technologies in nuclear decommissioning using automatic and semi-automatic nuclear instrumentation. This KP will provide a description of the nuclear instrumentation and their transportation medium, the analysis of the nuclear data acquired by different nuclear devices and on different types of nuclear facilities at JRC-Ispra.
