The JRC SciArt project at the Centre for Advanced Studies is currently working with the EU Policy Lab to embed art-science practices more organically in policymaking processes.
To kick start this collaboration, we organised an art-science-policy workshop at the EU Policy Lab in Brussels together with Centre Leo Apostel for Transdisciplinary Studies (CLEA) at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The main question driving this work: how can artistic practices contribute to evidence-informed policymaking and expand the societal reach of science-for-policy work?
The workshop brought together external experts and institutions from across Europe to critically reflect on the current and future role of the arts within the European science-policy landscape. Rather than treating art as an add-on, the session examined how artistic research and practice can meaningfully support the work of the European Commission, and what conditions are needed for such collaborations to be credible, useful and sustainable.

In the autumn of 2026, we will kickstart a series of talks with artists and practitioners whose work lies at the intersection of art, science and policymaking.
