Neurologist and Ph.D. Student. I focus on healthy (brain) aging promotion and noncommunicable diseases prevention.
I am an early career neurologist currently based in Italy and pursuing a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Neuroscience. My areas of interest include cognitive decline and public health. Specifically, I am keen to explore a synergistic approach to tackle cognitive decline by promoting healthy aging and preventing non-communicable diseases.
In terms of clinical experience, I have worked in the field of neurology for four years, with a focus on cognitive neurology. Additionally, I have three years of experience in conducting clinical trials for neurodegenerative diseases.
I have also actively participated in research projects, ranging from the epidemiology of Young-Onset Dementia to the evaluation of the prognosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment.
I have had the privilege of enhancing my research abilities by undergoing training programs at renowned institutions like the University of Oxford and the Italian National Institute of Health (Istituto Superiore di Sanità, ISS). These training periods have allowed me to develop a strong skill set in identifying research questions that address actual health requirements in the community I work in. Moreover, I have learned to assess suitable study designs that best fit the specific research question.
During my traineeship at ISS, I had the opportunity to contribute to important projects related to dementia and cognitive impairment. Specifically:
- I served as a member of the Evidence Review Team responsible for drafting the National Guidelines for the management of people with Dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment
- I participated in the assessment of prognostic factors of conversion to dementia in patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment as part of the national INTERCEPTOR project
- I was involved in a collaborative project focused on identifying commonalities between the agendas of health policies concerning primary prevention of dementia and noncommunicable diseases (NCDs)
Lastly, I attended, presented, and moderated at national and international congresses.
I also have a passion for science communication. During my time as a medical student, I wrote over 50 articles aimed at a broad audience, including students in healthcare fields and the general public. These articles were part of a peer-reviewed dissemination and education web project called “La medicina in uno scatto.” As a neurology resident and consultant, I have participated in various public engagement and health literacy projects, such as webinars, Alzheimer’s Cafés, and presentations for the Dementia Friendly Communities initiative.
