Jasna KARACIC

The doctor of philosophy (PhD)

Jasna Karacic is a head of the Health Diplomacy Unit (Former UNESCO chair in bioethics) and a counselor to the United Nation framework in Medical law. She is a member of the International Steering Committee of the Department of International Chair in bioethics and a Cochrane member for Research in evidence-based medicine. She is an expert in global health diplomacy and a university scientist in foreign affairs.

She is visiting lecturer in ethics at the Department of Medical Humanities, in the Faculty of Medicine, and in the Faculty of law for legal medicine. She is the international keynote speaker at the global diplomatic forum for carriers in diplomacy.

Due to the effort made for the engaging scientific rule in health diplomacy elected a Patient Ombudsman by the International Council of the Patient Ombudsman© on general assembly.

She served as a diplomat – Health attache during the Croatian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2020, delegated from the Ministry of Health. She became a Home and Justice Counselor for medical cannabis and human rights during the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic at the United Nations.

As a public figure in Croatia, since 2016, she holds the position of the president of the Croatian Association for the Promotion of the Patients' Rights.

Currently, she is a personal advisor to the governments in the EU,  international organizations, and Ministers of health ad foreign affairs, as well counselor for the hospital managers regarding health policy.

She is an external evaluator for the European Commission.

She holds consultative status with the United Nations and she got the Rector's Award for Achievements at the UNESCO level for human rights in medicine.

She is assigned "Young Leader" for Health crisis management in 2022.

She serves as national coordinator for a worldwide association of women forensic experts.

On the strength of their fighting for an anti-corruption policy in the healthcare system and her work is recognized by the European Police Association by offering an honorary membership.

After graduating in forensic science with a thesis in forensic psychiatry and criminal profiling at the University of Split in Croatia, she specialized in expert witness and medical law and she earned a master's in Patient safety from the University of Padova in Italy. She was rewarded with a university international fellowship and attended a Harvard Clinical Bioethics Course as a visiting researcher.

She completed a specialized  UN training program at a Diplomatic academy organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and she has Successful training in the Health MBA training 2021 from IESE Business School.

She is a member team of prof. Ana Marusic (Science in society) in the project „Professionalism in Health Care“.
