Public-sector policymaker advancing autonomous mobility, AI governance and emerging technologies through responsible, citizen-centred real-world deployment.
I am a public-sector technology and mobility professional working with the Province of Groningen in the Netherlands, with extensive experience in autonomous mobility, emerging technologies, AI, public policy and the real-world deployment of innovative transport systems.
My work bridges technology and government. I have been involved in autonomous mobility from technical testing and validation through public-road deployment, working across regulatory authorities, municipalities, technology providers, research institutions and other public and private stakeholders. My experience includes developing testing and deployment strategies, assessing real-world use cases, supporting regulatory processes, technology procurement and translating technological possibilities into practical public-sector applications.
A growing focus of my work is the governance of AI-enabled and autonomous systems. As these technologies increasingly move from controlled experiments into public environments, I believe governments need to consider not only technical performance, safety and regulatory compliance, but also transparency, public trust, accountability and meaningful citizen participation.
I am particularly interested in how participatory and deliberative approaches can be incorporated into emerging-technology policymaking. Autonomous mobility provides a practical example: decisions concerning where autonomous systems should operate, acceptable levels of automation and human oversight, data use, accessibility, safety and their impact on communities should not be considered exclusively as technical questions.
Through the Knowledge4Policy and CC-DEMOS community, I am interested in exchanging practical experience with policymakers, researchers and practitioners; learning from European approaches to participatory policymaking; and exploring how citizen participation can be incorporated more systematically into AI and autonomous-system governance.
I am also interested in contributing practical lessons from autonomous-mobility experimentation and deployment in the Netherlands and exploring opportunities for collaboration between regional government, European institutions, academia, industry and citizens.
My broader interests include AI governance, responsible innovation, autonomous systems, smart and sustainable mobility, public-sector innovation, technology regulation and evidence-informed policymaking.
