Sustainable Law and Compliance Lead
Devoted to turning International Law and Sustainable Development into cross-cultural common sense.
As a researcher and advisor, I close the critical gap between legal requirements and equitable outcomes, shifting sustainability from a legal burden to a strategic opportunity for decisional and cultural changes within governments and companies across Europe and China.
A central theme of my work is the "Brussels-Beijing Nexus." I analyse how EU regulatory outputs and non-EU reactions drive institutional change across the supply chain, specialising in identifying friction points between normative standards and local implementation. My work is built upon a decade of research and teaching appointments at leading Dutch universities.
Strategic Research Leadership (PI/Co-I)
I lead high-impact, government-funded projects that inform the EU’s approach to international legal cooperation and sustainable transition:
2026 – present | Sustainable Law and Corporate Compliance in Europe, China and 10 Partner Regions
2025 | Export Control & Implications for Europe-China Research Collaborations
2024 | Changing Perspectives on Europe-China Academic Collaborations
2021 – 2023 | Legal and Political Accountability of Government Authorities in China
2019 – 2022 | Smart Courts and Digital Governance in China
2014 – 2018 | Institutional Evolution of Citizen-State Dispute Resolution in China
I have been fortunate to build a comprehensive academic foundation across both China and Europe, including:
BKO (National University Teaching Certificate), Free University of Amsterdam (2023)
PhD in International and European Law, Utrecht University (2018)
LLM in International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, Peking University & Lund University (2013)
BA in Communication Studies, and LLB in International Relations, Peking University (2007–2013)
