The EU adopted its first Bioeconomy strategy in 2012 and updated it in 2018. Following the recommendations from the EU Member States on the opportunities of the bioeconomy in the light of current challenges, the European Commission committed to update the strategy in 2025 (see also the Communication “Building the Future with Nature”).
Taking stock of the important achievements of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy of 2018, as well as of the latest trends in the EU Bioeconomy, the new Strategy aims to further support citizens, regions, and key economic sectors (including agriculture, forestry, fisheries, biomanufacturing and biotechnologies industries and services). It will focus on making the best and most sustainable use of biomass, keeping material and products in the economy for as long as possible and reconciling planet, people and prosperity.
With this public consultation and accompanying call for evidence, the European Commission aims to collect stakeholders’ views on the way to improve the circular and climate neutral economy, boosting the EU’s prosperity and competitiveness within planetary boundaries.
