Explore the data: Population age structure by cohort

  • Visualisation | Last updated: 02 Mar 2026

Population age structure by cohort in the years 1950, 2023  and 2070 (projected).

The visualisation illustrates the differences in size between birth cohorts as they move through the age groups. The data include the EU27 countries.

The data can be filtered by cohort and country. Mouse-over (pop-up as cursor moves over graph elements) shows the year, birth cohort and age group.

Note: Data for Cyprus refer to the whole island, unless otherwise stated. This is without prejudice to the status of or sovereignty over any territory. Data may not be available for all regions.
