Supporting policy with scientific evidence

We mobilise people and resources to create, curate, make sense of and use knowledge to inform policymaking across Europe.

EffiSciences

EffiSciences is an organisation of young researchers founded in the Écoles Normales Supérieures (ENS), working to promote high impact research that is more involved in tackling the problems facing our world.

EffiSciences is an organisation whose mission is to promote research that addresses societal problems and to share the resources and tools to do so.

Our approach is pragmatic and efficiency-oriented, which means that we focus primarily on research areas that combine a large scale of impact, a potential that is sufficiently achievable and relatively neglected in the academic field.

We are developing many projects to introduce our approach, bringing together students and researchers who want to take it up and to help them train on priority themes. The first crucial themes that we started to address are the impacts of AI on society, climate change, and the emergence of biological risks. We also aim to bridge the gap between research and policy. While there is no simple way to link the supply of evidence to its demand in a policymaking system, and while research is sometimes unlikely to translate directly into an off-the-shelf ready-to-wear policy proposal, we still think that there is room for improvement to have better communication and interaction between researchers and decision makers.
