BRCA1 and BRCA2 are tumour suppressor genes. Mutations of these genes are associated with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome (BRCA1) or otherwise predispose humans to breast and ovarian cancer (BRCA2). They encode nuclear proteins that are components of DNA repair pathways.
