Gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment (GEWGE) is fundamental to human rights and integral to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Ensuring gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment is critical to the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) mandate of ending hunger and ensuring food security and nutrition for all. GEWGE is critical to the progressive realization of the right to adequate food in the context of national food security. GEWGE is also essential to achieving all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
