The Plan: The Government of Kenya’s vision to achieve agricultural transformation and inclusive growth is outlined in the Agricultural Sector Transformation Strategy (ASTGS - 2019-2029) and the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Plan (Kenya Kwanza Manifesto). The Bottom-up Economic Transformation Plan of 2022-2027 proposes to transform 2 million poor farmers into surplus producers through input finance and intensive agricultural extension support, enhance the productivity of key value chains (maize 8 -15 bags an acre, dairy 2.5kg- 7.5kg a cow a day, beef carcass weight from 110kg - 150kg), and reduce the dependence on basic food imports by 30% through supporting local production and revitalization of export crops.
