Today, on this 2024 International Day for Biological Diversity, the Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity (KCBD) is glad to announce a great achievement: the publication of the proposal for an EU Biodiversity Observation Coordination Centre (EBOCC).
This is a milestone of the EuropaBON project, working closely together with key EU institutions and collaborators and consulting hundreds of stakeholders.
This proposal and other EuropaBON achievements will be presented in a conference in Brussels on 27-28 May 2024.
EBOCC should be a permanent infrastructure that coordinates and fosters the generation and use of high-quality data to underpin the biodiversity knowledge-base used across EU policies, providing guidance and trainings when necessary. It should be based on national biodiversity monitoring hubs and re-use existing networks and communities. Data mobilisation & integration and enhanced data collection are two of the objectives proposed for EBOCC.
