The development of an EU-Africa Research and Innovation Partnership on food and nutrition security and sustainable agriculture is prompted by the level of global hunger, expanding nutritional imbalances, and the need for food production systems to sustainably respond to the rising demands of a global population. As well as recognising the substantial convergence between the objectives of African and European regional policies in agriculture and in science, technology and innovation and the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals. Convinced that some of the challenges of the current cooperation between Europe and Africa on Science Technology and Innovation for food and nutrition security are fragmentation of efforts and knowledge (new and traditional) being insufficiently mobilised to sustain innovation processes. The objective of the EU-Africa Research and Innovation Partnership on food and nutrition security is to contribute to these challenges in an innovative manner.
