Report on the public event “Let's reduce food waste – Solutions from the ECFWF”

The public event "Let's reduce consumer food waste! Solutions from the European Consumer Food Waste Forum" was held on 5 June 2024 in Brussels. Organised by the European Commission’s Knowledge Centre for Bioeconomy and Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety, the hybrid conference brought together 150 key stakeholders onsite and further 300 online, from both public and private sector; from local, regional and national authorities.

The participants shared the latest initiatives; including those addressing consumer behaviour change and discussed how the solutions of the Forum can support their work. The event launched the Toolkit to reduce consumer food waste, developed within the European Consumer Food Waste Forum project. The Toolkit is a comprehensive resource including the Food waste action planner and the Food waste prevention calculator. It empowers consumers and guides stakeholders in their food waste reduction efforts. Accompanied by video tutorials, interactive tools, reports and leaflets available in all 24 official EU languages, the Toolkit supports decision-makers across various sectors such as policymakers, businesses and educational institutions. The event showcased the importance of a collective progress toward food waste reduction, emphasising stakeholder engagement and the availability of actionable tools in fostering a sustainable food system.
