The Food System Analysis provides an analysis of the food system in Papua Guinea and recommends some priority actions for food systems transformation:
Addressing territorial and gender disparities

Support access for rural communities to basic services (education, health), i.e. for women.

Support the development of marketing infrastructure (including cold-chain, electricity, digitalization).

Improve road infrastructure, maintain current airstrips, wharves and jetties.

Improve communication infrastructure (Digicel/B mobile towers).

Foster access to resources and economic opportunities for women.
-
Support access to agricultural extension and skill training for women.
-
Sensitize on gender roles.
Address food insecurity and the triple burden of malnutrition

Introduce and promote public education and advocacy about dietary diversity, food preparation and diet-related diseases.

Conduct and finance research to analyse nutrient contents of traditional and underutilized crops (such as Moringa plants).

Enable effective and coordinated implementation of policies and budgeting to reduce food and nutrition insecurity.

Increase the budget for agriculture.

Build up the technical capacity of staff in the public sector.
Address the value chains to foster its economic growth

Promote and strengthen farmers’ organizations.

Creating an enabling environment for value chain actors by improving access to rural finance and appropriate financial products. Foster financial service providers, and enabling banks and microfinance institutions).
Reduce vulnerability to natural hazards and climate change impacts

Develop a strong policy and regulatory framework for efficient and sustainable utilization of natural resources.

Collaborate with different stakeholders to increase adaptation and mitigation capacity of local communities by diversifying their livelihood portfolio.

Increase awareness in local communities related to adaptation and mitigation measures and response to the aftermath of disasters.

Create of a strong national database/information system for disaster and climate related information.
