The new edition of the Atlas of Demography launched today contains data on mortality, fertility and migration, population projections, new thematic stories, and a more user-friendly look.
The Atlas of Demography is a living tool created by the Knowledge Centre on Migration and Demography (KCMD) to support the integration of demographic analysis into EU policymaking.
With the aim to transform it into a cross-policy reference tool linking demographic analysis to EU policies, researchers are constantly enriching the content of the Atlas with new data and thematic stories.
The new edition contains data on the three components of demography – mortality, fertility and migration – for the 27 EU Member States and their regions.
The new edition contains a major novelty: population projections for the EU Member States up to 2050, based on Eurostat data.
The population projections are 'what-if ‘scenarios that show the hypothetical evolution of the population size and its structure based on a set of assumptions for fertility, mortality and different levels of migration.
The Atlas also contains a baseline demographic scenario for 1169 EU regions (NUTS 3 regions), which will enable users to anticipate where in the EU the population will change the most in the future.
The new edition of the Atlas is released with three new thematic stories on the demographic impact of COVID-19 on EU territories, loneliness and support for governments.
The Atlas now contains 15 thematic stories, covering a range of topics from population decline and brain drain to the demographic profile of migrant children.
