Highlights

Addressing unhealthy diet, rising incidence of overweight, obesity and diet-related NCDs.

  • Lever 1: Policy interventions at the regional, national and local levels to reduce the availability and affordability of unhealthy foods on the one hand, while increasing the availability and affordability of healthy foods on the other.

  • Lever 2: Supporting innovative awareness campaigns that increase nutritional knowledge of the general population and encourage healthy food habits and lifestyle choices.

Supporting the shift from export-oriented single commodity agriculture (bananas, sugar cane) towards a vibrant, diversified agriculture.

  • Lever 3: Improving the regional policy and regulatory environment to encourage investments in agriculture and agribusiness, and establish linkages with tourism and modern retail sectors.

  • Lever 4: Establish public–private investment synergies for increased production and trade in alternative crops and livestock products.

Addressing the lack of resilience and increasing vulnerability of food systems in the Eastern Caribbean Region.

  • Lever 5: Build capacity among farmers, fishers, and other food systems actors for climate-smart and ecosystem-based approaches to agriculture.

  • Lever 6: Improve availability of financing and incentive support for small producers, and improve accessibility of existing financing mechanisms to build disaster prevention and resilience capacity.
