When we started planning for this convening one year ago, we never could have imagined the state of the world today. We planned the Climate Emergency and the Future of Food international dialogue in anticipation of 2020 being a ‘Super Year’ in terms of key international milestones— the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) COP15 in October, the UNFCCC COP26 in November, and others — all oriented toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Now we find ourselves in the midst of the global coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic which has revealed our deepest vulnerabilities, compounded existing inequalities, and highlighted the fragility and interconnectedness of human, anima l, and ecosystem health.
