Annual report 2016

Behind the headlines of famine, conflict and forced migration, there is some good news: the number of poor people in the world today is falling. In 1990, 1.85 billion children, women and men were extremely poor; by 2013, that number was down to 767 million. However, as the numbers fall, the proportion of poor people living in rural areas is rising: today a huge 80% of extremely poor people call rural areas home. These are the people in danger of being left behind.
