Context
The European Commission is committed to achieving corporate climate neutrality by 2030 and reducing its environmental impact in the context of the European Green Deal and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
As a global influencer in policy development and implementation, the Commission acknowledges the importance of aligning the ambition of the environmental policies with the commitment of its staff towards sustainable behaviour.
Goals
We aim to inspire and cultivate a sustainability-driven mindset among European Commission staff, fostering environmentally conscious corporate lifestyles. We will focus on translating complex data into tangible, relatable measures to ease the understanding and the change of mindset of staff.
Methods
- A workshop with behavioural and (neuro-) psychological experts and end users
- A survey methodology with less frictions than traditional surveys to maximise adoption of our tool
- A survey to map staff's knowledge, awareness, beliefs, attitudes and behaviour towards sustainability, guiding internal policy interventions (top-down)
- A self-assessment tool for staff to monitor their behaviour against sustainability benchmarks. In addition to tangibility, we will leverage behavioural principles (e.g. group identity, social influence, emotional appeals, positive narratives)
Expected outcomes
The tool will help quantify staff impacts on the European Commission's footprint and test different intervention effectiveness, which will help shape future internal policies and foster individual change.
