COIN Open Day - The Gender Scorecard

Coin Open Days → more info

Date of event: Thursday, November 14, 2024

Where: Online

Description:

In 2020, AU leaders made a commitment to improve women’s economic and financial inclusion – the AU Decade for women’s financial and economic inclusion. This Decade offers a real opportunity to strongly advocate for the adoption and implementation of gender-responsive economic policies across the continent. ACET proposes a process where we collaborate with stakeholders to develop a simple scorecard system to track progress and to hold governments to account.  Starting with a baseline analysis, progress in women’s financial and economic inclusion would be published every 2 to 3 years ahead of the African Union General Assembly - celebrating wins and sharing best practices that can be replicated and scaled.

Societal impact:

Significant gaps persist between men and women in accessing financial and economic services. Lack of female access to adequate financial services makes it more difficult for women to save, grow businesses, and pull their families out of poverty. It exacerbates their vulnerability and marginalization from productive sectors and formal employment. The goal with the Gender Scorecard is to create a region-wide accountability mechanism that incentivizes leaders to pay more attention to this critical issue and to work towards making women’s right to work, be paid, and participate in the economy of her country a reality.
