Index insurance is a type of agricultural insurance that can serve agricultural development and risk management by protecting assets and encouraging productive investments. Yet it faces operational and technical challenges to reach scale and sustainability. This publication aims to give people working in the insurance community, agricultural development and government an overview of remote sensing opportunities and challenges for index insurance, together with recommendations on where further work and investment is needed.
