About
The “Gender Equality Strategy Monitoring Portal” project supports the work of the Directorate General for Justice and Consumers (JUST) of the European Commission by providing readily available data on the state of play regarding the realisation of the policy objectives of the Gender Equality Strategy, identify strengths and opportunities and follow developments over time.
The Gender Equality Strategy frames the European Commission’s work on gender equality and sets out the policy objectives and key actions for the 2020-2025 period. It aims at achieving a Europe where women and men, girls and boys, in all their diversity, are equal. Where they are free to pursue their chosen path in life, where they have equal opportunities to thrive, and where they can equally participate in and lead our European society.

Policy briefs and additional resources
As part of the project, the CC-COIN team regularly produces policy briefs analysing gender related issues as well as providing relevant policy recommendations.
Policy briefs |
Division of Childcare and Housework among Men and Women during COVID-19 lockdowns The policy brief shows that the additional unpaid workload during the Covid related lockdowns was divided unequally between men and women with women taking the lion’s share, regardless of whether they continued working in paid jobs or not. It also proposes a few policy recommendations to ensure more equal sharing of unpaid work between men and women. |
Energy poverty and gender in the EU: the missing debate The policy brief discusses the possible impacts of energy poverty on gender, an issue often missing in current discussions at the policy level. It shows how energy poverty may affect women differently than men and proposes relevant policy recommendations in order to bring a spotlight on the issue. |
Breaking the silence: Violence against Women in Politics The policy brief discusses violence against women in politics with a view to raising awareness on the issue. VAW-P is a complex issue with evident implications for the victims’ overall well-being. This is enough to advocate for its condemnation. Yet, it is important to also acknowledge its deterring effect on women’s choice to enter politics and re-run for office and the consequent impact on society at large. |
