BIC is a non-profit organisation set up in Brussels in 2013. BIC represents the private sector in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the European Commission, also known as the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU).  BIC aims to contribute to society's long-term sustainability through the partnership developing integrative business models along the bio-based value chains with a focus on biorefinery plants and the technology need that aligns to it.

The Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) is a €3.7 billion Public-Private Partnership between the EU and the Bio-based Industries Consortium. Operating under Horizon 2020, this EU body is driven by the Vision and Strategic Innovation and Research Agenda (SIRA) developed by the industry.
