Brief me

The EU is engaged in the transition towards sustainability, and the European Green Deal sets the direction for its action through twin green and digital transitions.
To be successful, a systemic transformation requires coherence and coordination across all EU policies and all levels of governance (local, national, EU). It also requires coherence across all three dimensions of sustainability – environmental, economic and social. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate a long-term perspective into policymaking to ensure a successful transition towards sustainability.
The Competence Centre on Foresight has conducted multiple foresight projects on sustainability transitions, including support to the Commission’s annual Strategic Foresight Reports. It builds a scenario-based strategic foresight framework to explore how sustainability could look like for the EU in the long-term and to inform policymaking.
