On Thursday, 12 October 2023, the EU Policy Lab is launching its latest foresight product: four "Reference Foresight Scenarios on the global standing of the EU in 2040"


What are “Reference” Foresight Scenarios?

The scenarios put forward in our latest report offer four plausible versions of how Europe may look like in 2040 and its global standing.

They are strategic reflections, which can serve as a compass for navigating through unchartered territories of turbulence, uncertainty, ambiguity and novelty for policymakers.

These four geopolitical scenarios are called ‘Reference’ Scenarios because they represent a forward-looking framework that provides a reference for use in policymakers’ debates about potential futures.

We have a great line-up of speakers: both colleagues working in the EU institutions who have already applied the Reference Scenarios in their work and foresight experts.
