“REGIONS2030: Monitoring the SDGs in the EU regions - Filling the data gaps” reunited at the Joint Research Centre in Seville for a 2 days Technical Workshop, to share and discuss the final results of their work.

Over the last 6 months, the exerts have been working with the 10 pilot regions - Βόρειο Αιγαίο (North Aegean), Δυτική Μακεδονία (Western Macedonia), Comunidad Foral de Navarra, Andalucía, Piemonte, Puglia, Pomorskie, Centro (PT), Nord-Vest, and Manisa, Afyonkarahisar, Kütahya, Uşak.- , and local partners to develop, test and improve a framework of indicators proposed by the JRC for monitoring the achievement of the SDGs at regional level.

The experts have illustrated the main outcomes of their research, providing insights on the data availability and gaps, the trends and their possible interpretation, and the links with the regional contexts and policies. The rich discussion has provided many opportunities of peer-learning and cross fertilization among different contexts, highlighting both similarities in objectives as well as concerns across different places, but also specificities and local challenges. The 10 Regions were invited to attend the workshop on-line and provided some very interesting insights on how policymakers can use these data, as well as on how different opportunities and limitations can derive from the different ways of organizing the administration, that can be seen in different EU Regions.

The results of these 2 days discussions will feed into the Final Report of the REGIONS2030 project, to be published by December 2023, while the work of the individual experts will be published by end of June on the webpage of LocalSDGS.
