UN-HABITAT and the Joint Research Centre, in collaboration with the Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policies, organised a dedicated training for European cities and local governments on the European Handbook for SDGs Voluntary Local Review, launched in February 2020 at the World Urban Forum. It is designed to be a guide for the selection of appropriate indicators to use in the assessment of the SDGs at local scale and to tailor the review to local situations and challenges.
The training will include the presentation of the structure and rationale of the Handbook, plus the illustration of examples of local indicators that can be used to build a local monitoring SDG framework. This introductory training will be followed by dedicated sessions with small group of cities on specific topics in November and December 2020.
Objective
The objective of the training is to illustrate to European cities the building blocks of the Handbook and to cover its rationale, methodology and examples of indicators.
The participants will learn:
- How SDGs monitoring systems work
- What is a Voluntary Local Review and what are its key building blocks
- How to measure the SDGs in European cities
- How to select urban SDG indicators
