Rising awareness on the importance of monitoring SDGs at regional level - North-West Region

The event is organised in the framework of the project “REGIONS2030: Monitoring the SDGs in the EU regions - Filling the data gaps", funded by the European Parliament and developed by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in collaboration with DG REGIO and ESTAT. The REGIONS2030 pilot project aims to create knowledge on regional monitoring frameworks for SDGs. This event, jointly organised by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission and the North-West Region of Romania, is part of a group of 10 events that take place in each of the Pilot Regions participating in the project.

The event is designed as an awareness-rising event and marks an important milestone in the roadmap towards importance of correct measurement on achieving the regional SDGs and it will foster debates on education, health, gender equality, sustainable cities and settlements, research and development, industry and innovation, sustainable food supply chains, good governance in the North-West Region in the context of monitoring the SDGs. Also, it will emphasize the need of drafting a sustainable direction into the current Regional Development Strategy and the importance of the synergies between the local, regional, national and European policies related to the SDGs.

The event will bring together key actors from across the North-West Region of Romania, such as: presidents of county councils, mayors of municipalities, representatives of universities, civil society, county statistical offices, MEPs from the N-W Region and representatives from JRC.

This event will provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of SDGs in the North-West Region and also for the North-West Regional Report on the indicator set for monitoring the SDGs. Also, the event will be both technical and political in nature; it will highlight progress in relation to the Regional Development Strategy of Romania and good practices towards the achievement of the SDG.

The topics that will be discussed are: education, gender equality, sustainable cities and settlements, research and development, industry and innovation, sustainable food supply chains, good governance in the North-West Region, in the context on monitoring the SDGs.
