What Europeans think and know about the asylum system

  • Story | 03 Dec 2025

Takeaways

  • Over 60 % believe that asylum seekers are unevenly distributed across the EU and support a responsibility-sharing system among Member States.
  • Less than 30 % are confident that public authorities can detect fraudulent asylum applications. Providing information about how asylum procedures are handled could enhance public trust in the system.
  • More than 70 % show limited knowledge about the asylum system. Developing a tailored communication strategy on the 'Pact on Migration and Asylum' could help close this gap.
