Bioeconomy Knowledge Centre

The EU forest-related policies aim to improve the quality and quantity of EU forests by strengthening their protection, restoration and resilience.

The Common Agricultural Policy acknowledges the importance of forests to the environment and rural areas of the EU and supports sustainable forestry activities.

The Renewable Energy Directive includes sustainability criteria for both agricultural and forest biomass.

Further policy tools ensure the competitiveness and sustainability of the EU forest-based industry.
