Agroecology Coalition
The Agroecology Coalition supports the acceleration of food system transformation through agroecology and the implementation of country pathways in five objectives:
- Facilitate co-creation and exchange of knowledge on agroecology
- Foster increased investments in agroecology
- Advocate for and amplify supportive policies for agroecology
- Support and promote market pathways for agroecology
- Support, engage and strengthen our members (cross-cutting)
Launched at the UN Food System Summit 2021 the Coalition has grown to over 51 countries, 3 regional commissions and around 350 organisations. The European Commission is a member of the Coalition and provides financial support to its Secretariat.
The Coalition has adopted a strategy for the period 2024-2030, outlining a comprehensive and collaborative approach to transforming food systems through agroecology.
The Transformative Partnership Platform on Agroecology (TPP Agroecology)
The Transformative Partnership Platform on Agroecological Approaches to Building Resilience of Livelihoods and Landscapes (Agroecology TPP) was launched in 2021 with the scope to address key knowledge and implementation gaps to support agroecological transitions. It aims to provide clear evidence to underpin advocacy and inform policy makers and donors about the environmental and social benefits of agroecological approaches. The Agroecology TPP hosts a number of agroecological Communities of Practice for individuals to connect, share knowledge and technology and learn.
TPP Agroecology works in 8 domains:
- Evidencing socio-economic viability and understanding adoption decisions
- Inclusive cross scale metrics for agricultural systems
- Fixing policies and institutions to enable adoption decisions
- Achieving better nutrition through connecting consumers and producers
- Sustainable and inclusive management of water resources and risks
- Soil health including land restoration and avoiding degradation
- Evidencing relationships between diversity and resilience
- Pest, disease and weed control.
The CGIAR Initiative on Agroecology
This Initiative aims to develop and scale agroecological innovations with small-scale farmers and other agricultural and food system actors across different socio-ecological contexts in seven low- and middle-income countries.
Agroecology Europe
Agroecology Europe is a community of professionals, practitioners, and societal stakeholders. It aims to support agroecological research, education, and training, share and disseminate agroecological knowledge, and promote agroecology in the farming and food sectors and in society.
Agroecology Partnership
European Agroecology Partnership is a consortium under Horizon Europe with the aim to coordinate efforts, pool resources, and facilitate the transition to agroecology across Europe, by building on participatory research approaches such as Living Labs (LL) and Research Infrastructures (RI). The Agroecology Partnership provides funding for projects that aim to promote spaces for long-term, site-specific, multi-stakeholder experimentation and provide adoption-ready practices that support farmers in understanding and implementing practices. Further, the Partnerships engages in mutual learning and dialogue.
FAO Agroecology Hub
This web-based platform shares relevant knowledge on agroecology.
Biodivision
Biovision Swiss Foundation combats hunger and poverty, and is committed to the dissemination and application of ecological methods that sustainably improve living conditions in Africa whilst also conserving the environment.
Regional Multi-actor Networks on Agroecology in Africa (RMRN)
The Regional Multi-actor Research Networks in Africa on Agroecology (RMRN) strengthen knowledge creation related to food systems transformation towards higher levels of sustainability and based on agroecological principles for a green transition in Africa. On continental level the project is coordinated by FARA (Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa) and Ruforum (Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture) with scientific support by the JRC (Joint Research Centre).
- Southern Africa: Research for Agroecology Network of Southern Africa (RAENS)
- Eastern Africa: Regional Multi-Actor Network on Agroecology in East Africa (RMRN-EA)
- West and Central Africa: Agroecology Network to promote the sustainability of food systems in West and Central Africa (RADiUS)
Together they inform the Africa Knowledge Platform ArcX on Agroecology.
Centro Latinoamericano de Investigaciones Agroecológicas (CELIA)
CELIA is a research centre that promotes agroecology in Latin America by generating knowledge, training practitioners, and supporting sustainable, socially just farming systems. It links scientific research with farmer-led practices to strengthen food sovereignty and environmental resilience.
Sociedad Científica Latinoamericana de Agroecología (SOCLA)
SOCLA is a scientific association that brings together researchers, educators, and practitioners to advance agroecology in Latin America. It promotes research, education, and public action focused on sustainable, socially just food systems.
