Scientific AI Hub

Evidence-based insights on AI, for scientists and policymakers

About AI Watch

  • Page | Last updated: 06 Mar 2026

The Scientific AI Hub provides independent, evidence-based tools and insights from the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC), to inform approaches to AI use and policies. Our teams support scientists and policymakers by:

  • Tracking the development and deployment of AI in science, healthcare, public administration and other sectors
  • Assessing the risks and opportunities associated with AI
  • Developing studies, reporting methods and best practices on the trustworthy adoption of AI

This Hub is designed to support evidence-based decision-making and inform scientists, policymakers and the wider public debate around AI.

Our approach

We contribute to shaping the European digital society in an ethical, trustworthy, human-centred way by integrating sound and frontier scientific know-how from different disciplines, including:

  • engineering and computer science
  • data science and informatics
  • social sciences.

This interdisciplinary approach means we evaluate AI both as a technology and in terms of its societal, economic and policy implications.
