Survey launched to capture research insights on migration drivers

The Knowledge Centre on Migration and Demography (KCMD) has launched a survey targeting researchers working across different contexts and disciplines to better understand the drivers of migration and strengthen the link between research and policymaking.

The initiative aims to compile concrete, evidence-based insights on structural and intervening migration drivers and factors, with a view to informing EU policy responses and fostering a deeper understanding of how diverse phenomena shape migration dynamics. The survey supports ongoing work by the European Commission in incorporating evidence-based policymaking under frameworks such as the New Pact on Migration and Asylum and the proposed Pact for the Mediterranean.

Researchers are invited to share findings from published work originating from individual studies or projects on specific drivers they have explicitly or implicitly identified through their work. Contributions will feed into the development of a knowledge platform that integrates academic research into practical policy analysis.

In addition to contributing to EU-level knowledge-building, respondents will have the opportunity to increase the visibility and impact of their work, and to connect with a growing community of migration researchers working at the research-policy interface.

The survey is open until 13 September 2025. Multiple submissions and further sharing is encouraged.
