Supporting Evidence-Informed Policymaking (EIPM) among 135 new Technical Support Instrument projects announced by the European Commission

On 31 March 2025, the European Commission approved 135 new projects under the Technical Support Instrument (TSI) with the goal of increasing the EU’s resilience and competitiveness as well as improving the lives of European citizens.

Among the selected initiatives is the project on evidence-informed policymaking (EIPM), soon to be implemented in seven EU Member States: Austria, Cyprus, France, Ireland, Poland, Portugal and Spain. By improving collaboration between policymakers and scientists, the project aims to enhance policy quality, build public trust, and bridge the gap between scientific research and decision-making requirements of scientific evidence.

Throughout this project, the participating countries will have their current EIPM landscape assessed, develop tailored roadmaps for reform, and receive EIPM-focused training for scientists and policymakers. We will also aim to create opportunities for international exchange, where experts can share best practices and learn from each other. These efforts will help ensure that scientific evidence plays a bigger role in shaping policies that impact citizens' lives.

Building on our past work with SG REFORM, the JRC is eager to continue supporting Member States in making policies that are smarter, more effective, and more trusted. We look forward to working with our partners to turn knowledge into action.
