The Europe Media Monitor (EMM) is a research project of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) that aims to extract insights from media and perform analysis across multiple languages. 

  • Monitors over 20,000 websites and processes approximately 500,000 online pages daily in 80 languages.
  • Supports scientific research with advanced language analysis methods for trend identification, text categorisation, and key entity detection.
  • Integrates advancements in AI, including large language models (LLMs), to improve media analysis.
  • Facilitates applications like topic classification and identification of biased text, focusing on understanding online discourse.
  • Provides critical insights for European bodies offering information on issues like natural disasters, health threats, innovation, and scientific developments.
  • Aids researchers and policymakers in staying informed about emerging issues, thereby supporting decision-making and policy.
  • Collaborates at an international level with partners such as the World Health Organization with the Epidemic Intelligence from Open Sources Initiative (EIOS) project.
