The Communities of Practice Barometer

Guidance and Templates

  • Publication | 2024

The Communities of Practice Barometer is a strategic tool designed to assist in evaluating and advancing communities. The Barometer covers eight critical success facets of community performance, providing concrete questions and action maps to evaluate current status and plan future actions. This comprehensive tool is essential for organisations and communities alike seeking to track community activities, set forard-looking goals, and implement effective strategies and operations to the communities' benefits.

The Barometer includes guidance on usage, application examples, and ready-to-use and adjustable workshop templates enabling users to assess their current community status and determine and design necessary activities to achieve their desired outcomes. Inspired by the comprehensive methodology of the Communities of Practice Playbook, the Barometer aligns with the key questions from the community roadmap, providing a hands-on approach to community development. Accordingly, key questions addressed include: How are we performing? What areas require focus or improvement? What does success look like for the community in 6 months to a year? Which opportunities to leverage and which blockers to overcome?
