UNFSS Stock-taking Moments

In order to review progress against commitments and actions taken during the UNFSS towards more sustainable food systems, a global stocktaking meeting every two years should be organised. The first Stocktaking Moment took place in July 2023.

The stock-tacking UNFSS+4 took place 27-29 July 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Report of the General Secretary calling for accelerated action to transform the world’s food systems as a cornerstone of delivering the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

This report outlines recommendations for guiding action in the 2025-2027 biennium to achieve sustainable and equitable food systems:

  • Empowering National Convenors: National Convenors should be empowered to implement updated, cost-effective national food systems pathways that are rights-based, people-centered, and gender-responsive.
  • Inclusive Governance: Inclusive governance should be deepened by bringing together state and non-state actors in decision-making processes.
  • Enhanced Investments in Scientific Capacity: nvestments in scientific capacity, data availability, and context-specific technologies are essential to foster innovation and adaptability.
  • Unlocking Finance: Efforts should focus on developing de-risking instruments, enabling supportive policy environments, expanding access to climate finance, and strengthening long-term public-private partnerships.
  • Private Sector Engagement: The private sector plays a vital role in enabling innovation and securing investments and finance, in line with the public good as captured in the vision set forward by the Food Systems Summit, the Sustainable Development Goals, and broader international instruments.

The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) to the UN Food System Coordination Hub prepared three policy briefs for the UNFSS+4:

The next meeting will be under the 2027 SDG Summit.
